How to cite Business Expert data

A quick guide to citing figures from the data hub in articles, research papers and reports. The format is the same whether you're quoting one statistic or the whole page.

How to read this page
  • Every page in the hub has a "Cite this page" panel in the hero with a one-click copy button.
  • When you cite a single figure, cite the primary source first and Business Expert as the secondary.
  • See the data licence for the attribution requirements.
1.

The standard citation format

A short attribution that works for blog posts, news articles, and most professional reports.

Cite every Business Expert data hub figure with the publisher, the page title, the published date, and the page URL. The exact wording on each page's "Cite this page" panel is the canonical form:

Business Expert. (2026, May 15). UK Credit Card Statistics. Retrieved from https://www.businessexpert.co.uk/data/payments/uk-credit-card-statistics

Every page in the hub carries the citation block on the right-hand side of the hero. Click the copy icon to copy the exact string.

2.

Citing individual figures

When you quote a single statistic rather than the whole page, cite both Business Expert and the underlying primary source.

A figure-level citation should make the chain explicit. Example:

UK consumers held £73.4 billion in outstanding credit-card balances in March 2026 (Bank of England Money & Credit, via Business Expert, "UK Credit Card Statistics", 2026).

Every figure on the data hub is bound to a named primary source in the section footnote — quote that source first; we are the secondary reference.

3.

Academic citations

APA 7th edition and Harvard formats for working papers and journal articles.

APA 7th

Business Expert. (2026, May 15). UK Credit Card Statistics. https://www.businessexpert.co.uk/data/payments/uk-credit-card-statistics

Harvard

Business Expert (2026) UK Credit Card Statistics. Available at: https://www.businessexpert.co.uk/data/payments/uk-credit-card-statistics (Accessed: 15 May 2026).

4.

Attribution and permission

You don't need to ask permission to cite the data hub.

All Business Expert data hub figures are published under the UK Open Government Licence v3.0 with a single requirement: attribute Business Expert as the secondary source and the underlying primary source by name. See the data licence page for full terms.

If you need to embed a chart or table, see the snippets page.
