Our Verdict on the Xace Business Bank Account
If mainstream banks have refused your gambling or iGaming business, Xace is the one UK account that will take you, at a price.
It’s an FCA-authorised payment account (FRN 948213), not a bank, so there’s no FSCS protection. The standard plan is £250/month; Era is free if you hold an active gaming licence. On access it’s unmatched; on price it isn’t competitive, because nothing cheaper has been confirmed to accept the sector.

Key Pros and Cons
What you get is access no rival offers a gambling business, plus genuine multi-currency reach across six payment rails. We rate that access highly, because for this sector it’s the whole game.
What you give up is cost certainty and deposit protection. The fee is steep, the joining fee is hidden until a sales call, and your balance is safeguarded rather than FSCS-guaranteed. The trade is worth it only if you have no mainstream option. That’s the trade-off.
- Accepts the sector that Starling, Monzo and Revolut refuse: iGaming, gambling and esports
- Era tier is free for licensed gaming operators: no monthly fee, 0% transactions
- 20+ currency accounts with SEPA Instant, UK Faster Payments, SWIFT, BACS, CHAPS and ACH
- Account-level dual approval and multi-user access for compliance teams
- FCA-authorised (FRN 948213) and MFSA-licensed
- £250/month standard fee, high for a payment account with no lending products
- POA joining fee not disclosed until a commercial call, so year-one cost is opaque
- No FSCS protection: funds are e-money safeguarded under EMR 2011 instead
- No overdraft or credit on any plan
- Eligibility assessment required, not instant approval

Who Xace Is Best For
You will get the most from Xace if you hold, or are applying for, a gaming licence and need multi-currency rails no mainstream bank gives a gambling business.
Picture an operator refused by two banks, with 30 European affiliates to pay at month-end. Xace clears that run without a mid-transfer refusal. That is the pitch.
Skip it if you can open a mainstream account, or if you need FSCS deposit protection, an overdraft, or your sector is not on Xace’s accepted list. Standard SMEs and sole traders aren’t the fit. Here the pricing only works as an access cost, not a value play.
The essentials, confirmed from xace.io in May 2026: £250/month standard (Era free for licensed operators), 20+ currencies, a virtual Visa debit card, dual approval on payments, e-money safeguarded rather than FSCS-protected, and no overdraft.
Xace Account Eligibility and Application
Who Can Open a Xace Account
You can apply if your business is EEA-registered and operates in iGaming, online gambling, esports, gaming affiliates, or an adjacent specialist sector. We confirmed the accepted-sector position from xace.io in May 2026. Acceptance is not guaranteed for every business type within that broad sector.
If you’re a standard SME, a sole trader, or a business that can open a mainstream account, you don’t meet the intended profile. Xace is neither structured nor priced for general business use, so a bank refusal is usually the reason you’re reading this at all.
What You Need to Apply
You apply through xace.io and go through an eligibility assessment, a review process rather than an instant-approval flow. Lead time runs from days to weeks depending on how complex your structure and licensing are. Build that into your launch plan rather than assuming same-day access.
You confirm your gaming licence status during the application for Era pricing. Era doesn’t apply while a licence is still pending: the tier needs an active, issued licence from a recognised regulator. Have the licence reference ready.
Xace Account Fees and Pricing
Monthly Fees and Plan Options
You choose between two tiers: the standard account at £250/month, or Era at no cost for licensed gaming operators. Era needs an active licence from the UK Gambling Commission, MGA, or equivalent, confirmed from xace.io in May 2026.
For a qualifying operator, that’s a £3,000-a-year swing. Check Era first, because that’s the difference that matters.
| Plan | Monthly Fee | Transaction Fees | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | £250/month | Included in monthly fee | EEA-registered businesses in accepted specialist sectors |
| Era | Free | 0% transactions | Active gaming licence (UK GC, MGA, or equivalent) required |
| Pricing confirmed from xace.io, May 2026. Joining fee for the standard account is POA and not publicly disclosed. | |||
You can’t see the full first-year cost up front. A joining fee applies to the standard account, but the amount is POA, price on application, and not published. You’re quoted in the dark until a commercial call.
Picture an operator mid-launch, already down a licence fee and legal bills, asked to commit before anyone will name the joining cost. That’s a lot to take on faith.
At £250/month the standard account is £3,000 a year before that joining fee. For a business the market refuses, treat this as the cost of access, not a cost-competitiveness question. There is no cheaper confirmed route into banking for the sector.
Transaction Fees and Charges
You pay no separate transaction fees on the standard account, they sit inside the monthly fee, and Era carries 0% transactions. We confirmed this from xace.io in May 2026. Xace publishes no corridor-level schedule and no pricing page of any kind, so the per-transaction cost of the standard account is agreed during onboarding against your volumes and your business type. We looked again on 21 September 2026 and found none.
We found no cash side to this account, and no physical card either. Xace issues virtual Visa debit cards and nothing else, so there is no branch, no Post Office arrangement, no cash machine access and no cash deposit charge to look up. For a gaming or affiliate business paying suppliers by transfer that is beside the point; for anyone taking money over a counter it rules Xace out entirely.
Xace Features and Business Banking Tools
Invoicing and Expense Management
You manage spending through multi-user access with configurable permissions, plus a virtual Visa debit card at no extra cost for UK clients. Dual approval on outgoing payments needs a second authorised user to release it, set at account level, not a toggle any admin can switch off.
For an iGaming compliance team that has to show regulators genuine segregation of duties, that account-level control is the point. When your auditor asks for evidence that no single person can move funds alone, a bank-enforced approval step answers the question an in-app permission can’t.
You get no savings pot, interest, or credit facility on any plan, so this is a payments tool rather than a treasury one. Dedicated invoicing is not a core Xace feature.
Integrations and Accounting Software
You get reporting and analytics through the account portal. Xace names no direct Xero, QuickBooks or Sage integration anywhere on its site, and we found none on 21 September 2026. What it does publish is a PSD2 Open Banking connection: a dedicated API that third-party providers reach through Salt Edge, with sandbox and production documentation and quarterly availability figures. A live bank feed therefore depends on whether your accounting software connects over Open Banking, not on an integration Xace has built for it.
Assume a CSV export workflow until Xace confirms otherwise, and budget for the month-end reconciliation that adds. For a business juggling several currencies and a monthly affiliate run, that manual step is worth pricing in before it becomes your finance team’s problem.
Xace Card Usage and Payments
Spending, Transfers and Limits
You send and receive across SEPA Instant, UK Faster Payments, SWIFT, BACS, CHAPS and ACH from one account. Pay a European affiliate, a UK supplier and a US licensee in the same run, and one account covers all three corridors. We confirmed the rail list from xace.io in May 2026.
Spending runs through a virtual Visa debit card, included at no extra cost for UK clients. There is no physical card at all: Xace issues virtual Visa debit cards and nothing else. On the recurring plumbing it names dual approval, saved payees, recurring payments and bulk runs, and does not mention collecting by direct debit anywhere on its site. A business that needs to pull payments from customers by direct debit is not served here.
You get no overdraft on any plan, and spending limits, transfer ceilings and payment caps weren’t published at review. If your cash flow needs a credit buffer, source it elsewhere.
Overseas Payments and FX Fees
You settle international payments same-day where SEPA Instant is available, against next-business-day for standard SEPA Credit Transfer. When you pay 15 European affiliates on the last Friday of the month, each clears the same day rather than queuing behind your reconciliation deadline.
You receive in GBP, EUR, USD, CAD and 20+ further currency accounts, so a client paying in EUR or USD lands in the matching balance without a forced conversion. Which details you hand an overseas customer depends on the account you hold: Xace gives corporate accounts an international bank number in the company’s own name, and its premium affiliate account carries dedicated numbers for euros, pounds and dollars. It publishes no receiving fee schedule for any specific corridor, so that is another number priced during onboarding rather than read off a page.
On FX itself, Xace describes its rates as competitive across 20+ currencies, but we couldn’t verify the margin. Here is the catch: the two obvious benchmarks don’t apply to you.
Airwallex (interbank +0.5%) and Wise (mid-market +0.33 to 0.57%) both exclude gambling. Xace publishes no rate card. We looked again on 21 September 2026: there is no pricing page anywhere on the site and the FX page names no margin, so “competitive” is the company’s own word and there is no published figure to hold it to. On a large transfer that is the difference between a quoted cost and an unquoted one.
Xace Customer Reviews and Ratings
Read the headline score with caution, because there’s not much of it. We found Xace’s Trustpilot volume low against mainstream providers, which makes any aggregate rating a shaky quality signal. A rating built on a small base moves sharply on a handful of reviews, so it carries less weight here than the fee schedule does.
Remember the context these reviews come from. When a mainstream bank has just closed your gambling account, you’re not scoring features, you’re relieved to find a provider that’ll take you. That relief colours the reviews, so read them as access stories, not satisfaction ratings.
On support, Xace names dedicated relationship managers. For a compliance-sensitive business, a named contact beats a ticket queue when a payment is flagged mid-transfer and cash flow is stalling. Xace publishes no response times and no rule for how managers are assigned, so the named contact is a stated service model rather than a commitment you could hold it to.
FAQs
Is Xace FSCS-protected?
No. Xace isn’t FSCS-protected. Xace Limited is an FCA-authorised payment institution (FRN 948213), not a licensed bank. Your funds are e-money safeguarded under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011: held in ring-fenced accounts at a custodian bank, separate from Xace’s own capital. That is contractual fund protection, not the statutory £120,000 FSCS guarantee that applies to licensed banks. We confirmed Xace’s regulatory status from the FCA register in May 2026. For operators holding large working balances, the distinction is real: under safeguarding, recovery if Xace fails is not the same instant statutory protection as FSCS.
What is the Xace Era tier and who qualifies?
Era is Xace’s free account tier for licensed regulated gaming businesses. It has no monthly fee and 0% transaction fees. To qualify, you must hold an active gaming licence from the UK Gambling Commission, Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), or an equivalent recognised regulator. A licence in progress or a pending application doesn’t qualify for Era: you need the active, issued licence. We confirmed the Era tier structure from xace.io in May 2026.
Does Xace accept gambling businesses?
Yes. Xace explicitly accepts businesses in online gambling, iGaming, esports, and adjacent specialist sectors that mainstream banks typically refuse. We confirmed that Starling, Monzo, and Revolut each explicitly exclude gambling and iGaming businesses from their terms of service as of May 2026. An eligibility assessment is required before opening, and acceptance isn’t guaranteed for all business types or structures within the broad gambling sector.
What are the alternatives to Xace for a gambling business?
For a gambling or iGaming business, there’s no confirmed cheaper alternative. Airwallex and Wise are the natural multi-currency comparisons on price and features, but both explicitly exclude gambling and online gaming, verified from their terms and acceptable use policies in May 2026. Starling, Monzo and Revolut are cheaper and FSCS-protected, yet all three exclude the sector too. That is why Xace competes on access rather than price: for most gambling businesses it’s the only viable option we could confirm.
What currencies does Xace support?
Xace supports 20+ currencies with GBP, EUR, USD, and CAD as the primary currency accounts. You can hold balances and send and receive payments in each currency. Payment rails include SEPA Instant, UK Faster Payments, SWIFT, BACS, CHAPS, and ACH. We confirmed the currency and rail list from xace.io in May 2026.
How we reviewed Xace
What we assessed. We evaluated Xace on pricing, the Era tier, payment rails, multi-currency features, eligibility and, crucially, its protection model, because it’s a safeguarded payment account rather than an FSCS-protected bank.
Data sources. Pricing, product terms and eligibility were checked directly on xace.io in May 2026, with FCA authorisation (FRN 948213) and MFSA licensing verified on the public registers. Sector exclusions were confirmed from Starling, Monzo, Revolut, Airwallex and Wise policies. No aggregator data.
Update cadence. We re-verify this page whenever Xace changes pricing, eligibility or terms, and the verification date reflects the most recent full review. Some links on this page are affiliate links, see our editorial policy.
