Lightspeed Review: My Verdict
In my view, Lightspeed ePOS is one of the most capable systems out there, but it’s only the right choice if your business is already established and generating consistent revenue. I’d say a minimum of £10,000 per month is a sensible threshold. This isn’t a starter POS. It’s for operators who are serious about streamlining and scaling, especially across multiple locations.
The system works beautifully for retail, hospitality, and niche sectors like golf. The interface is clean and intuitive, and the integrations with platforms like Shopify, OpenTable, QuickBooks and Xero are some of the best I’ve seen. It’s fast, reliable, and gives you real operational oversight.
That said, there are some important limitations. You have to use their payment processor. It only runs on iPads. And while Lightspeed offers an e-commerce module, I wouldn’t rely on it if online sales are a big part of your business. You’ll be better off integrating with a proper e-commerce platform.
Lightspeed isn’t cheap, and it’s not trying to be. But if you want a system that can genuinely support your growth, automate your operations, and give you confidence at scale, it’s one I’d absolutely put on any shortlist.

Lightspeed Restaurant EPOS
Lightspeed restaurant ePOS is used in over 160 Michelin-starred restaurants and approximately 168,000 locations worldwide.

The premium plan is ideal for restaurants looking for a more comprehensive ePOS package. It includes everything you need to make your business successful. The enterprise plan allows you to tailor your ePOS package to your restaurant’s needs. Lightspeed is essentially a software company, so you’ll pay a fee for the monthly subscription to their app. The fees to watch out for, however, are the per-transaction fees: Lightspeed insists you use their payment processing functionality, and they take a per-sale percentage, typically from 0.4% up to about 2% per sale. This is the figure that’s going to make the biggest difference to your business’s bottom line.
